The Purdue University Northwest Archives and Special Collections serves as the institutional memory of the university, preserving and providing access to unique and historical materials that document its history, as well as the heritage of Northwest Indiana. Our collections include university records, manuscripts, photographs, oral histories, rare books, and ephemera, all carefully curated to support research, teaching, and lifelong learning. We are dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural and historical significance while ensuring the enduring preservation of our shared stories.

The Mission of Purdue University Northwest Archives and Special Collections is to identify, collect, preserve, and make materials of value that document the history, culture, scholarship, advancements, people, and achievements of the university’s faculty, staff, and students accessible to researchers.

**What is an Archive?**

An archive is a place where important historical materials, like documents, photographs, and records, are kept safe so they can be studied and remembered. It’s like a treasure chest of the past, filled with items that tell stories about people, places, and events.
 

**What is a Special Collection?**

A special collection is a part of a library that holds unique or rare materials, such as old books, personal letters, or artifacts. These items are often one-of-a-kind and need special care to make sure they last for future generations.

Together, Archives and Special Collections help preserve history and make it available for learning, research, and inspiration.
